Powerful or Powerless? That's the question.

In a society were resources are scarce and competition is harsh, fighting for power is just a common thing that does not surprise us anymore. Once Abraham Lincoln said that if you want to test a men's character give him power. Everyone desires to be powerful and have control over things or people and every single one desires different types of power. You can fight for power to either be a leader and help the community or accept power from another source. The desire to be a leader and to rule over others sometimes turns to be very dangerous if it is not properly managed, not only in a business perspective but also in a personal one. Power can control all aspects of life, from workplace to home. Every time someone mentions power the only thing that comes to mind is the negative aspect of it. Someone will certainly misuse this power that was given to him either from recklessness or because of the love for power. If a person abuses their power, it has the capacity to do great harm. However, power is not always negative. It is true that power changes the person's life, either if he is the one holding it or the one influenced by it. However, this change can also be a positive one. I like to think of power as one of the motivators of life. The desire to be powerful instead of powerless can help a person to achieve career or life goals. Don't you want to make decisions in your own, set your own rules and have an influence to other people? or Do you want to be the one that everyone tells you what to do and where to go? Therefore, having a desire for power is not something to be ashamed of as it motivates you to be better and work harder to climb the success stairs. As long as the desire for power is healthy and that the only goal is to produce positive outcomes than it should be accepted. I think that people want power not because they want to cause harm but rather to have autonomy. If you want to hold the power than use that right to change your life and others for good.
